Words You Should Know

Amino Acid: The building blocks for proteins.
Anabolic:
That which builds muscle tissue.
BIA:
Bioelectric Impedance Analysis.  A test for muscle to fat ratios and LBM, as well as other important measurements.
Catabolic: That which breaks down muscle tissue.
Cachexia: Severe wasting/weight loss.
LBM:
Lean Body Mass. A person's total body weight is made of muscle, fat, and water.  LBM refers to lean muscle tissue.  .
Lipodystrophy: Abnormal loss and redistribution of fat
Wasting Syndrome: Involuntary loss of more than 5% total body weight and loss of LBM.  Death typically occurs when body weight falls one-third of ideal weight, or when LBM decreases by 50%.
